Chris' Mission

Did you know that the United States of America is called "an Experiment?"  When our forefathers created this country what they did was revolutionary.  Namely, they created a country out of 13 colonies in direct opposition to the desires of the British Empire.  Against all odds, ordinary farmers had come to a point where they realized that living under British rule was unacceptable.  That something needed to happen.  So out of necessity they gathered together and created several documents that were to change the world of nations forever.  The first document was the Declaration of Independence.  The second was the Constitution that had an attachment called the "Bill of Rights."

Today, people come from all over the world in an effort to live in this country despite significant odds.  They hear how great it is to live in this country of ours and they risk their fortunes and their lives just to live in our country.  But why?  Because we truly are free.  Historians have called us the "Great Experiment" because what we've been doing for the last 250 years has never been done before in this world.  Namely, that we, the citizens of this country have the ability to vote.  And we vote in representatives to run this country.  The rest of the countries have different types of governments different from our own.  But we are called the "Great Experiment" because the naysayers are waiting for us to collapse and fall.  So our great experiment is our Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

As for the Liberterian Party, we are betting on the Constitution.  We believe in the Great Experiment called the United State of America.  And when one studies how our Constitution was created, we come away with the understanding that what our forefathers created is a powerful document.  Our forefathers were really quite simple.  They were just farmers and wanted a place to practice their various faiths and live in peace with their neighbors.  To this unsettled land, they brought with them their common sense.  And with their common sense, they realized that no one should have absolute power.  So they divided up the power into three parts with each part balancing the other parts.  It's unbelievable really.  And then not to forget the common man and woman, they crafted a Bill of Rights to keep the average person free from government control.  These farmers had to fight to be free and they did.  And that is why people from all over the world try to come and live in our country and enjoy our "Great Experiment."

So we in the Libertarian Party take our principles directly from our Constitution and the Bill of Rights and we'll fight and die for these principles if need be.  What's interesting is that the Constitution is really pretty simple if one just breaks it down.  So why does it work as well as it does?

The writers of our Constitution wanted to keep it simple and they only saw a few functions that the national government should have.  Have you ever heard of the KISS pinciple?  "Keep it simple, stupid."  Most constitutional courses say there are only four functions in the Constitution, namely, the power to raise and maintain an army for self-defense.  The power to create and run a post office.  The power to govern the interstate commerce between the states.  And finally, the power to pass legislation which we call laws.  This is fairly simple, and that's the point I'm trying to make.  When you boil down the Constitution to it's basics it's really pretty simple.  And why did they want to keep it simple?  So they could go back to their farms and live life in peace.  Because isn't that what life is about?  Namely, enjoying one's family and living with your neighbors in peace?  It's just common sense.  Which brings me to our final point.

Texas has over 507 amendments to its Constitution while the US Constitution has only 27.  So the US Constitution was well written and kept fairly simple.  It's in the implementation where things get a little sticky.  Have you tried to do your own taxes recently?  Well, I've spent two afternoons on mine and I'm still not done.  Those are called rules and regulations.  Not fun.

So our Constitution is working fairly well, it's just the people who we call representatives that muck things up.  And the one thing they've really mucked up is what and how much our current government is spending.  With the latest "Big Beautiful Bill" the current Administration and Congress has increased our nation debt from $32 trillion to $36 trillion.  Our GDP is only $23 trillion.  So what's up?  Even if we could take all the money that goes through cash registers in this country and apply it to the current federal deficit we couldn't pay it off.  In other words, our federal government has a spending problem which neither party feels a need to correct.  So, as far as our representative are concerned, they just kick the problem down the street.  But what if our government had a balanced budget like we have in Texas?  In other words, what would the US economy be like if the US government had to balance the budget every year and didn't run out-of-control deficits?  For one, we wouldn't have inflation.  Second, the citizens would have a standard of living two or three times of what it is now.  In other words, we'd all be living quite well.  Everyone.  Period.

So that's what were about in the Libertarian Party.  Hopefully, you can join us, and please vote for me, Chris Royal, in the upcoming November election so I can go to Congress and fight for you and this great beautiful country of ours.  God Bless you.

Sincerely,

Chris B. Royal
